The tour lasts around 3 hours and in that period of time you will visit Canada’s largest maple tree, 1000 year old cedars, massive firs, and you will also learn about the history of the park and the history of the original coast Salish people who called the park home. We will walk various trails in the park and see the most impressive giants still standing. Some of these giants are hidden unless you know where to look. Using old maps, postcards over a hundred years old, and photos from Vancouver’s archive, we piece together the history of the ancient forest and the urban environment. We'll drive from downtown Vancouver on the scenic Sea-to-Sky Highway to Squamish. The 7 hour tour includes pick up and drop off, a 2 hour return drive, a steep 4 hour, 11km return, 600meters elevation hike, with an hour break at the top. This is not a beginner's hike (there are easier ones I organize) and you need to be in great shape. However, we'll pace ourselves based on your ability with plenty of breaks for photos. As an outdoors guide with 30+ years of experience leading hikes, I will show you how to hike safely. We will be ice fishing for stocked Rainbow Trout on one of the local lakes right here in Whistler. The fish range between 8 & 14 inches in length but if you are lucky there is the "chance" of hooking an 18 + inch trout. This is a great experience for those new to ice fishing. I will set up a large tent-like ice fishing shelter which will have a heater inside to keep you nice and toasty. We also put you in a pair of insulated winter boots with ice cleats for warmth & safety. If it's a nice day you can move around the lake a lot more. This way, you can take in all the beautiful scenery the area has to offer which includes Whistler and Blackcomb mountain in the background. There is a good chance we will have the lake all to ourselves. It's the perfect getaway when you need a break from skiing and want some quiet time. At the same time, Humpback and Orca Whales are returning to the Salish Sea from more tropical climates, where they migrated last fall to give birth and mate over the winter. The West Coast Bigg’s Killer Whales add to the diverse mix of marine wildlife in their ongoing search for the seals, dolphins and porpoises that make up their diet. A seasoned skipper and experienced naturalist share their knowledge in searching for black bears, whales and all the abundant birds and wildlife surrounding us.
