Gaeta Castle Tours: Explore History & Views

We will start from the Grotta di Tiberio adorned with numerous sculptures depicting the deeds of Ulysses. We will continue along the ancient Via Flacca (187a.C.). We will admire the medieval towers dating back to the 1500s and wonderful natural caves. We will arrive in Gaeta (LT) and we will admire the "Montagna Spaccata". The show that offers the reserve of the Regional park of Ulisse, is amazing. UNIQUE experience, because I have a regular permit to access it.

I'm Anna Maria Priora, an Italian licensed tour guide with a PhD in WWII history in Italy at the Humboldt University of Berlin. I will be happy to share with you the most important events of the 4 Battles of Cassino, but also the personal Veterans' stories! We Will reach Trocchio Hill, to have a wonderful general view on the battlefield, then we will the stop next to the famous Rapido River, we will pay out respect to the local memorials and we will reach the Commonwealth War Cemetery of Cassino. At the end of the tour we will visit the Abbey of Monte Cassino on a WW2 point of view. You might have heard the word “aperitivo” once or twice if you have Italian friends, and this is an "Italian Aperitivo with Monte Cassino History and the Gustav Wine". I will serve you a "finger food dinner of delicious local products" with a unique experience in which I like to interact in order to exchange and offer historical information about Cassino, answer any questions and illustrate focal points regarding some sites of the battle of Cassino in WWII, with a lot of interesting maps and pictures and original information not easy to find in the classic tourist itinerary, wich give very different perspectives of the battlefield behind the Monastery of Monte Cassino.  Not only, this is a good opportunity to have a special wine taste of the "Gustav Wine"; a bottle of a unique wine of which I invented the label, inspired by the vines I saw growing, during my walks on the paths around Monte Cassino.

Monte Cassino battlefield private walks through ancient mule tracks. Hiking the Cavendish Road with original storytelling to arrive on the top of the impregnable hills defending Monte Cassino Abbey and the Gustav Line in WWII, discovering the bloody footprints of the soldiers and the hardships of the civilian escape.

This tour is for sure "outside" the usual touristic areas. The Abbey of Montecassino is one of the most known Abbeys in the world. In 529 Saint Benedict chose this mountain to build his monastery. In February the Abbey 1944 a bombardment almost flatted it. According to a legend, when Jesus died on the cross, the Jerusalem temple veil was torn causing three deep cracks into the rock of what today is known as Split Mountain of Gaeta. On top of this promontory stands the Sanctuary of the SS. Trinity. At the left side of the church, one of the cracks leads to the Turk's Cave, pilmgrinage and enchanting tourist destination, linked to other stories and relevant personalities.

The departure is preceded by an initial briefing in which the guide of the Rafting Center teaches the crew the simple management techniques and the essential precautions to ensure the safety of the participants in the descent. Leaving behind the Gulf of Gaeta we will skirt the Regional Park of Monte Orlando, a place of considerable naturalistic, historical and religious interest. From our boat we take an exciting panoramic cruise, which after the Angevin-Aragonese Castle, follows the coast to the extreme point of the promontory: the Sanctuary of the Montagna Spaccata, with its characteristic chapel dedicated to the Holy Crucifix, built on an embedded rock between two cliffs and suspended over the deep blue sea. Unforgettable will be the glimpse of the cliffs, more than 50 meters high, which drop sheer to the sea and of the natural caves, including the imposing Grotta del Turco After the Serapo Beach, there is a small islet, its narrow and long shape resembles a ship, which is why it is called "Nave di Serapo". For those who love snorkeling to explore the seabed, just dive in to become part of the underwater world ... it will undoubtedly be an unforgettable experience!

With Rafting Super you discover what it means to surf a wave, dive into a rapid or ferry and move within the currents of the river, trying to sail faster than the other crews. The Rafting Super descent has only one goal: pure fun! Unforgettable the glimpse of the cliffs, walls more than 80 meters high, which run overhanging the sea and the imposing and suggestive "Cave of the Turk". At the extreme point of the promontory awaits us the Sanctuary of the Split Mountain. On the opposite side of the beach of Serapo from the promontory of the Sanctuary, a sort of islet-rock is clearly visible, renamed by the locals "the ship". The nickname comes from the fact that the rock as a whole recalls the shape of a boat. Once in Sperlonga we will admire the medieval towers dating back to 1500 and the wonderful natural caves of limestone formation: the Caves of Bazzano, Capovento and the most suggestive, the "Blue Grotto" Immerse yourself in its crystal clear waters!
