Vik Black Sand Beach Adventures: Tours & Activities

We offer scenic riding tours on the beautiful black sand beaches of Vík, South Iceland. Our Black Beach Riding Tour is an easy-going one hour ride perfectly suited for beginners and people who don’t go horse riding often, but we welcome riders of all abilities. Our horses are friendly and sure-footed, perfect to enjoy the wild Icelandic terrain. In the summer there is a chance to spot puffins flying above us, and in winter the ever-changing weather highlights the rugged beauty of the landscape. The tours are mostly at walking speed, but for those who are capable there is the chance to try some tölt, the special gait of the Icelandic horse. Please note we have a weight limit of 100kg / 220lb, and riders must be aged 10+. We are committed to the welfare of our horses and reserve the right to ask riders to step on a scale. We ask you to arrive at the stable 15 minutes before departure.

Your hotel will be somewhere between the towns of Vik and Hofn, and you will have plenty of time to explore the area! The second-day stops include: Jokulsarlon, Diamond Beach, Amphibian Boat Tour, Eldhraun Lava Fields, The Bridge of the Volcanoes, and Fjadrargljufur River Canyon to complete our view of Icelandic nature. If time permits, we will explore more of Vik on our return drive home. The minimum age for participants is eight years. Be sure to pack warm clothing and comfortable shoes to enjoy every aspect of this experience. Dinner is late for some advise bringing snacks to prevent hungry spells. Please note that July and August are very busy on the South Coast, and this tour fills up quickly.

This is a super jeep adventure with the unforgettable experience of walking through caves made from ice on the Katla glacier. To get to the glacier we use modified jeeps with huge tyres. This is part of the adventure. When we arrive at the base of the glacier in the middle of the Icelandic wilderness, we will explore ice caves, and hike around a little on the glacier. After that we drive to Hjorleifshofdi, a deserted black sand beach. We only focus on small groups, with a more personal service. We spend as much time as is possible on the glacier giving you the chance to really take in this once in a lifetime opportunity. Our guides know these areas very well and have been working in the area for many years. All of our guides have experience and are trained in glacial exploration and are first aid certified.
