About This Tour
Trek along the edge of Rano Kau, one of the three extinct volcanoes of Rapa Nui. Moisture accumulates inside, creating a favorable microclimate for cultivation. There is a great diversity of native vegetation that surprises: bananas, tubers, and other edible species that make us think of ancient human occupations. It is considered that the manavai, an ancient system of cultivation of circular holes, protected by a stone wall, was inspired by the craters of volcanoes such as Rano Kau.
