On this trip we paddle the shoreline of Resurrection Bay, where encounters with sea otters, sea birds, bald eagles and leaping salmon are common. In half a day (4-4.5 hours), we will take you from Homer to the end of the road and beyond, deep into Alaska’s wilderness. We are the only guides offering airboat tours in the rivers at the head of Kachemak Bay, so you will likely not see any others, outside of our group. The physical demands of this tour are minimal if you can climb in and out of an Argo and an airboat, you are good to go.

Gaze at deep, glaciated, u-shaped valleys, and giant ridge lines defining the landscape. Imagine pristine, treeless, tundra loaded with vegetation that you can touch, taste, and feel. If you have never seen alpine before, prepare to be amazed! Alpine trekking is an incredibly unique way to see the landscape. You can see endless miles of mountainous terrain. On a clear day, we can even see Mt. Denali hundreds of miles away! Plus, once you're on top, the terrain can be fairly flat, making the trekking a truly enjoyable experience. During the tour, we may see moose, bear, Dall sheep, mountain goats, and a variety of small mammals like arctic squirrels and marmots. Kayak on TWO amazing glacial lakes! This adventure begins with a paddle across Trail Lake in Historic Moose Pass. Our guides bring this small Alaskan town’s history to life. The stories of locals like Alaska Nellie, the ghost of gold miner Al and the famed Iditarod Trail provide plenty to ponder as you paddle along the shores of Trail Lake. After a short paddle south, glide to shore for a hike along a section of the Iditarod National Historic Trail as we head up and over the ridge to the stunning, emerald waters of Grant Lake. While moderately rated in regard to the terrain, there's no denying we're in wild Alaska along this route due to the rapid growth of the vegetation in the spring and summer along the trail. The feelings while staring out across Grant Lake are hard to describe and the views are breathtaking. We'll take some time to have lunch here, then we'll set out on kayaks once again to experience this area from the water before hiking back down the trail toward Moose Pass.

Start this 2-hour tour by getting geared up for the cold weather. You’ll then head into the dog yard and play with the dogs while the staff harnesses up the team. After a little instruction, you’ll take off for about an hour on a 6.5-mile trail, with a stop halfway to take photos of Mt. Denali if it’s visible. You’ll take turns driving the sled (with an experienced musher on hand!). Then return back for some cocoa and cuddling with retired sled dogs. Overseeing the operation are Rohn and Alyssa Buser. Rohn is a 3x Iditarod finisher and champion of multiple mid distances races. He is the son of Martin Buser, who has won the Iditarod 4 times and has the record for the most Iditarods (39 times), so Rohn literally grew up riding sleds! The dogs of Susuitna Sled Dog Adventures are more than working dogs, they are our family. We love sharing their passion with others and hope you leave our home filled with as much admiration and respect for these amazing animals as we are.
