The Oregon Coast is an experience like no other and our guides have selected a quieter, slower approach to the day: a visit to Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach; hikes through old-growth forests to views beyond what the common tourist sees; up-close encounters with the iconic monoliths that make the Oregon Coast so unusual; a lunch stop in a sweet beach town; recommendations for our favorite cinnamon rolls, pie or ice cream; sand (if you want it) between your toes. Day tours can feel long but ours feels more like a just-right exploration with plenty of time to sit however you like with the majesty of the ocean -- or spend most of your time wandering in the forest as you listen to waves crash beneath you. The Columbia Gorge NSA features waterfalls, mountains, monoliths, terraces, resort towns, vineyards, orchards, and The River, harboring a plethora of fish and birds, and unique plants and invertebrates. In the early 1900s, Portlanders would drive their Model T cars along the Columbia River Highway to gaze at waterfalls. There is said to be over 4000 waterfalls; many are hidden away, but many are just a short hike off the Historic Highway. On this afternoon half-day tour you'll make new friends while exploring "waterfall alley", including views of the Vista House and a stop at Multnomah Falls, the tallest waterfall in Oregon and most visited site in the Pacific Northwest. Your expert guide will teach you about the natural history, cultural history, and wine background of the area, as you drive the Historic Columbia River Highway Scenic Byway. You'll continue on to stop at a vineyard in the Columbia Gorge American Viticultural Area (AVA). Tasting fees included.

Your guide will return you to your departure location at the end of the tour.

Our small group Eastside Coffee Roaster walking tour takes you to the makers who have called the neighborhood their home for decades, each with a different approach to coffee roasting and brewing. Across from downtown Portland, the industrial neighborhood has transformed from manufacturing and warehouses to the heart of passionate creators: artists, chocolate makers, food innovators, and every kind of free spirit. Portland has the most coffee roasters of any city in the world, and we would argue some of the most earnest and unique origins and barista artistry is happening right where Around Portland Tours makes its home. The tour in total is 1.5-3 miles (2-5 km) of walking, tasting and learning. You'll also discover a lot about Portland and how these artisans are nourished. We keep groups small, so you'll have an intimate experience with your passionate guides. Ask about larger private groups.

Millions of years ago, during the formation of the Cascade Mountain Range, lava and other pyroclastic matter flowed west from what would be the Cascades all the way to the Pacific Ocean, creating a thick shell of basalt rock that covered Western Oregon. Then, during the Pleistocene Ice Age, roughly 15,000 years ago, water from the Lake Missoula Flood carved out the Columbia River Gorge as hundreds of cubic miles of water, ice, rock and mud rushed from present-day Montana to the Pacific Ocean. Explore the beauty of the canyon walls and rock formations, breathtaking waterfalls and awe-inspiring vistas that make the Columbia River National Scenic Area one of the Seven Wonders of Oregon. Our enthusiastic guides will introduce you to the most amazing places in the Gorge, while providing a comprehensive narrative of this spectacular landscape and its transformative history.

If there is any adventure that we love more than biking in the Columbia River Gorge, we would be hard-pressed to identify it. The cycling here is world-renowned and it's no accident it's one of less than a dozen places in the world to have a Peloton-guided scenic ride created around it. We get to do that in real life! We will ride between 35 and 60 miles (60 - 100 km) depending on your interests and the group, with lots of up and down hills, although all at gentle slopes and lower elevations (nothing over 900 feet / 300 meters). The adventure here is a challenge but not an unsurmountable one; from one end of the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Highway to another, or an out-and-back ride from a stunning viewpoint, along a scenic highway, then onto a protected bike/pedestrian pathway. Either way, we will ride some of the country's most beautiful roads and visit beautiful waterfalls like Multnomah and Horsetail Falls. Lunch will be on your own with our recommendations

Want to check out Portland's hot thrift shop scene? You just have to know where to go! Come along with me for a tour of shops that include everything from items plucked out of the dump to high-end Prada at a second hand boutique! Portland's thrifting culture is rooted in our respect for the environment and a commitment to re-use and recycle useable goods rather than send them to the landfill. Consequently, we have many thrift shops of every kind and category! There's no place better to begin than SE Hawthorne Ave., a vibrant street of secondhand shops, as well as a food carts, coffee shops, and small businesses selling made-in-portland goods. It's my treat for coffee or cocktails as we meet to get acquainted and caffeinated! This is a team experience so we can share what we're looking for and act as scouts for each other (me: Frye boots, color brown, size 10). I look forward to going thrifting with you in Portland!

The 85-mile (137-km) long Columbia Gorge NSA would be a national park if it weren't a critical transportation corridor. It features waterfalls, mountains, monoliths, terraces, resort towns, vineyards, orchards, and The River, harboring a plethora of fish and birds, and unique plants and invertebrates. In the early 1900s, Portlanders would drive their Model T cars along the Columbia River Highway to gaze at waterfalls. It was the first scenic highway built in America. There is said to be over 4000 waterfalls; many are hidden away, but many are just a short hike off the Historic Highway. On this ALL-INCLUSIVE tour you'll explore the western, rainforested, southern side of the Gorge, dubbed "waterfall alley" where we'll have you getting wet under a waterfall, peering over cliffs, and learning stories of the area only the locals know.
