Your trek begins at Marangu Gate (1,900 m), where you will journey through the lush equatorial rainforest en route to Mandara Hut (2,700 m), located on the forest belt boundary just below Maundi Crater. Along the way, you will experience the mountain’s rich biodiversity and enjoy stunning vistas of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail offers opportunities to observe a variety of vibrant bird species and several types of monkeys, including the Black-and-White Colobus. Arusha National Park is the closest national park to Arusha town covering an area of 137 sq. km and is about 60kms from Kilimanjaro International Airport. The Park has a wide range of habitats, from the string of crater lakes where many water birds can be watched, through the highland montane forest and on up to the imposing summit of Mt. Meru. The interesting geology of the area is reflected in the impressive view of the ash cone and cliff face leading to the summit of Mt. Meru.

Despite the small size of the park, common animals include giraffe, buffalo, zebra, warthog, the black-and-white colobus monkey, the blue monkey, flamingos and more. African elephants and leopards are present, but rarely seen. The park is at the base of Mount Meru, which is good for climbing. Birdlife in the forest is prolific, with many forest species more easily seen here. Though very accessible, Arusha NP isn't on many safari itineraries. This is mainly because it doesn't offer a chance of seeing the Big 5. It has a range of habitats including forest – home to the black-and-white colobus monkey – and is excellent for birding.

Arusha National Park was Ngurdoto Crater Highland National Park until 1967. The current national park covers an area of 137 sq km/53 sq mi, and is located near the town of Arusha between Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. The park and town derive their name from the Wa-Arusha people who traditionally live in this area. Among many other popular sites, the Serengeti National park is one of the important and a popular one. Serengeti National Park is the site of animal migration. Hundreds of wild zebras and Wildebeest come across the Serengeti national park and people come here to see this exceptional scene of nature.
