Hike a section of the ancient forest-clad Tokaido Highway that links Tokyo with former capitals Kyoto and Osaka. Experience Amazake Chaya, one of the few remaining of hundreds of teahouses that lined the old Tokaido, Cedar Avenue with towering 400 year-old Japanese cedar patrolling both sides of the trail, and stunning views of Mt Fuji (weather permitting) from Yamanaka Castle Ruins, and more. You will hike around 8km in this trip and visit Lake Ashi, the Hachiri heritage path, Yamanaka Castle Ruins, Genbe River. The transportation between the sites is either on foot or by local bus. The guide will give you background of this historical part of Japan. You will traverse the Hakone Mountain like Edo period travellers and see Mt Fuji from different angles while you walk if weather permits. Hakone Hachiri is a Japan Heritage where you can experience how people traveled during Edo period (17th century). It is a part of the Old Tokaido Highway including the steep slope of Hakone mountains. Our Hakone Hachiri tour starts from Hakone Yumoto. We hike and take the bus to visit Amasake Tea House and walk on the cobble stone path to Lake Ashi where we will see the lake, Mt Fuji and the Torii gate of Hakone Shrine. After lunch near the Hakone Checkpoint, we take a bus to skip the temporally closed part and then resume the walk towards Mishima. Mishima Station is our ending point.

This tour involves 4-5 hour hiking in Hakone (about 8-9km) and you need to be fit to complete it. You will traverse the outer rim of Hakone caldera and enjoy lunch and onsen in this experience. The 90-min ascent up to the mountain top has an elevation gain of 500 meter. Then the 2.5 hour ridge walk gives you a panoramic view of Hakone area (. As you walk through the bamboo field, you will hear the birds singing and see sakura in spring, red leaves in autumn and step on the powdered snow in deep winter. After the ridge walk, you will go down the mountain in 30 minutes and reach Sengokuhara. Then lunch at local Japanese restaurant. Onsen follows for relaxation. If the weather is good, you can see Mt Fuji most of the time while you are on the ridge walk. Even when Mt Fuji is hiding behind the clouds, you still have a view of Miyagino and Sengokuhara in this traverse mountain hike. We go by chartered taxi to the trailhead. Transportation cost is not included in the tour price.

You will hike 2-3 hours along the old Tokaido highway some on cobbled paths and some on forest trails between Hakone Yumoto and Lake Ashi. Some part of this path is off-the-beaten track and we normally have the forest for ourselves. This part of the Hachiri has the best preserved cobbled path and more primitive forests. You will hike past the wood crafting village of Hakone - Hatajuku and we skip the steepest part of the trail by bus and reach a teahouse that has a history of 400 years. After an energising amasake, we will continue our hike to Lake Ashi where if you are lucky, you can have a picture with Mt Fuji and the lake view. The Hakone checkpoint is our last stop where you will understand the significance of Hakone in the history of Japan. At the end of the tour, you can then catch a bus or a ferry (pirate ship) to your next destination at around 1pm.

Kamakura was Japan's first feudal capital from 12th century to 14th century. It is surrounded by 3 mountains and ocean and known for many historically significant Buddhist temples and Shinto shrines. Come join this 6-hour walking tour to feel the spirit of samurai at its historic sites! You will visit Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, the biggest shrine in Kamakura area, and Komachi Dori, the most famous street with many interesting shops and delicious street food stands. Also visit Hase Temple, Kotokuin area, and see the big Buddha (also called "Daibutsu" in Japanese)! Your guide will make you are having a lot of fun while learning the history of Japan. Discover the hidden side of Kamakura — a peaceful historic town that most visitors only partly experience on their own. With narrow streets, quiet neighbourhood paths and scenic spots tucked away from the crowds, having a local guide makes a huge difference. I’ll tailor your route to your interests, from seasonal temples to charming restaurants (I'll let you know details of sites when I suggest your itinerary. Probably you'd be able to visit about 5-6 sites.) Great value for booking of 2 or more people (maximum 4 people). This is around a six-hour tour, including a lunch break (your meal is not included in the tour fee). Some areas include steps, so please let me know if you prefer to avoid them. Do you want to experience the deep side of Japan? This is the first public calligraphy experience activity where you can meet a calligraphy master in this city where you rarely see foreigners. You will enjoy Japanese sweets and tea during the workshop, so there is no need to be nervous. Beginners are also welcome! At the end of the workshop, you will create a T-shirt, hand towel, or tote bag with your name in calligraphy printed on it along with a sumi-e painting by MADARA of your choice, so you can take home a one-of-a-kind original item.

Sencha-do is a tea ceremony that does not use powdered green tea. In sencha-do, tea is carefully brewed by infusing green tea leaves. In this workshop, you will first observe the tea ceremony to understand the atmosphere and its culture. Japanese sweets will also be served, so please enjoy the moment. After observing the ceremony, you can actually use a tea utensil to brew tea. Hope you will be surprised and discover something new about the taste of tea brewed yourself. You can also compare the taste with your friends and family.
