The most important thing in Macedonian cuisine is that the dishes are made from only a few ingredients and you must use your imagination to make the testiest dish from the available products. Bitola, or also known as Monastir during the Ottoman Empire, was and still is an important town: It was established by Philip II, father of Alexander The Great; It is on the Ancient Roman Road of Via Egnatia; and it was the town where the international community decided to open consulates to the Ottoman Empire. Today, Bitola is a town with a wealth of cultures intertwined in its streets and residents. Likewise, the remnants of a once thriving Jewish community are scattered throughout the town, and blended in the everyday life as a memory. In this tour we visit the oldest Jewish cemetery in the Balkans, we walk through the old Jewish neighbourhood to see where the Jewish once people lived, visit the Old Bazaar to see where the Jewish people once worked, and we see the many monuments that the local people of Bitola enacted in memory of their fellow citizens. In the process we learn also about the rich history of Bitola and its tasty cuisine.

In one day, we will be able to experience a piece of the culture and natural beauty of both Albania and Greece. We will explore Korca in Albania and Kastoria in Greece, two beautiful and very different towns. Our first stop for the day will be the town of Korca, a small town, that is turning out to be one modern town in Albania, while the traces of communist isolation are still visible. We will be able to visit the Museum of Medival art, with some of the most beautiful preserved Medival objects from the surrounding. After the Korca sightseeing, we will continue our way to Greece in the town of Kastoria. Kastoria lies on the shores of the Orestiada lake, where you can see the most beautiful scenes of pelicans and cormorants swimming around. You can have lunch or a coffee break in some of the restaurants and cafes on the lake shores. We have a chance to visit the Cave of the Dragon on a guided tour. If the weather allows it, we can make the return trip through Galichica National Park.

This is a medium to hard hiking tour to the highest peak on Galichica mountain. Magaro is 2245 m high. The view from the top of the hill over the two lakes is amazing. From here you can see both Lake Prespa and Lake Ohrid, and both Macedonia and Albania. If you are up for this challenging adventure, do not hesitate to book.

Once we arrive at Bitola, on the right, you can see Mount Pelister and Pelister National Park, which is the smallest but oldest national park in Macedonia. It is famous for its ancient Molika pine trees and many other different types of flora and fauna and it conserves some rare glacial lakes, the Pelister Eyes. It is a famous winter ski resort with hotels and ski-lifts. In Bitola we visit the church of St. Dimitri. Then we just have a quick glance at Yeni Mosque, built in 1559 which is now an art gallery, then the Yahdar-Kadi Mosque (built in 1562) and the Isak Mosque (built in 1508-09). At the heart of the town is the Clock Tower. The River Dragor runs through the town. Sirok Sokak (a long pedestrian area) is renowned for the beautiful old houses that belong to the 19th-century architecture. Bitola is a town of consulates, also the town where the Manaki brothers, famous for their pioneering work with the camera, opened their Studio of Art Photography in 1905.

In the heart of the city of Struga, our first stop will be at the local market. Here you can taste different products which are produced in the gardens of the local residents. After visiting the formation of the river and the city center, enter the Nezlobinski Museum, where you behold a unique representation of the flora and fauna heritage of the whole Ohrid region. Before leaving Struga, you will visit the Brother’s Miladinovci memorial house. The journey continues to the self-proclaimed independent region of Vevchani. At first you will cool down at the colorful springs of Vevchani, where the water flows fresh from the mountains. This water quenches the thirst of thousands of people and is drinkable at the springs.
