⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had an amazing experience at Jyothi - The Door to India in Sapporo. The food was absolutely excellent — it didn’t even feel like we were eating in Japan, but rather in a North Indian restaurant back in Pune or Maharashtra. They offer plenty of vegetarian options, which was a big plus for us. We ordered Phulka, Paneer Curry, Jeera Rice, and Daal, and every dish was delicious. The cook and owner, Mahavir, personally greeted us and made sure we were served the best vegetarian food. He even customized the spice levels perfectly to suit our Indian taste, which we really appreciated. The atmosphere is very soothing and comfortable, making the whole dining experience even better. Overall, excellent food, ambience, and service — highly recommended for anyone craving authentic Indian food in Sapporo! I was lured into this restaurant by the exorbitant ratings. The butter chicken was great. The garlic naan was disappointing, as it was delicious bread topped with burned garlic. Some of the garlic was edible, but most of it was too charred. I haven't had great garlic naan in Japan yet, and the best I've had seems to add garlic and butter after most of the cooking is done to prevent overcooking. I'm guessing that the cheese naan is likely the better choice here, but I only had the garlic version. Despite this, it was still okay. The value was good, as the price was decent considering the overall quality. The service was alright. I was brought a pitcher of water along with a glass, although I was served after another party that arrived after me. I visited Jyoti Restaurant in Sapporo on 29 October 2025 and had a wonderful experience! We ordered chicken biryani, roti, butter chicken, and veg biryani everything was delicious and full of authentic Indian flavors. The spices were balanced, portions generous, and the service was warm and welcoming. Definitely one of the best Indian restaurants in Sapporo.

I’m from India. I visited the restaurant in May ‘25 during my Japan trip. I went to Jyoti as I was really craving some Indian spices and food, and this appeared as the highest rated Indian restaurant in Sapporo. There was no waiting time for me as there was only one other Indian family at the restaurant when I reached. The owner is very welcoming and hospitable. He loves interacting with his guests, specially if you’re from India! The food was decent enough to satiate my craving, but of course I’ll be highly biased cuz I’m from India itself. I can see ppl who don’t have access to actual Indian food from India loving their dishes, because the food is indeed pretty decent. My favorite items were the mix raita and aloo jeera. The butter chicken and roti were alright. The service time was okay as there is only one server. You can visit the place if you’re in the vicinity, and are craving or would like to try some Indian food. The pricing is a bit on the higher side. Also, just a suggestion, please update the playlist to maybe play some Indian classical or movie songs.

3.5 stars. This restaurant is one of the highest rated restaurants in all of Sapporo. It doesn’t meet that standard in my opinion, but it is good. We enjoyed our Chicken Tikka Masala and our vegetable curry. All curries come with different variable spice levels. One thing I really appreciated about Jyoti was that their “Hot” spice level is actually hot (unlike many restaurants in Japan). I can’t imagine trying their 2X Hot spice level; I assume that’s reserved for the real professionals. Bottom line: both curries were flavorful and the portions and price were fine. We also appreciated the prices at the restaurant, which we found reasonable. The price of drinks were on the less expensive end for the area. Entrees are priced about average for the area. The ambiance at the restaurant is fine; not particularly impressive or inviting, but fine … In terms of service, we’ve seen some of the management replies to reviewers on Google Maps, so we’re a bit concerned going in, but the food was served quickly and staff were attentive. The restaurant is also quite clean. Hard to tell if we will come back for a repeat visit. I would likely be inclined to try one of Sapporo’s other Indian restaurants before coming back.
