We had a wonderful evening at Pound Sanjo-Kiyamachi! The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was fantastic. A big thank you to the friendly staff for their great service. We will definitely come back and highly recommend this place to everyone. 5 stars! Great restaurant with a great selection of beef and other meats for Japanese BBQ, where the chefs (including a master!) will help grill the meats to perfection. A couple staff speaks English, too, so this is an accessible place for foreigners to get wagyu, kobe, and good yakiniku. One of the assistant chefs, Sota, was a stand out. Funny, talked with us, and made the meal a lot more fun. I had an absolutely wonderful dining experience at this steakhouse, and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who enjoys a perfect meal. From the moment I walked in, the warm and elegant atmosphere set the tone for the evening. The interior design is tasteful, with comfortable seating and a relaxed yet refined ambiance that makes it suitable for both casual dinners and special occasions. The service was impeccable—attentive without being intrusive. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to offer thoughtful recommendations on both the menu and the wine list. Every detail, from the greeting at the door to the timing of each course, was handled with genuine professionalism and care. As for the food, it exceeded all expectations. The steaks were cooked to absolute perfection—juicy, tender, and bursting with flavor. The quality of the meat was outstanding, and the chefs clearly take great pride in their craft. The side dishes were equally impressive, offering a variety of options that complemented the main course beautifully. Even the starters and desserts were memorable, with well-balanced flavors and elegant presentation.

Great restaurant with a great selection of beef and other meats for Japanese BBQ, where the chefs (including a master!) will help grill the meats to perfection. A couple staff speaks English, too, so this is an accessible place for foreigners to get wagyu, kobe, and good yakiniku. One of the assistant chefs, Sota, was a stand out. Funny, talked with us, and made the meal a lot more fun.

This was the BEST meal we ate in Japan. Some people in our group ordered the random course, which they loved. We ordered the assortment of 4 kinds of Kobe beef to share and added cucumber kimchi, egg soup, and garlic rice. Everything was phenomenal, but the garlic rice was incredible. The chef is also very friendly and cuts the beef like he was a samurai in a past life. Make the reservation!

We walked to this lovely restaurant by coincidence on a Monday evening - very special/great way to end our Kyoto stay! Food was delicious, meet was tender and Pound Sanjo people were very attentive and sweet. Did not think I would like tongue that much!
