Small hidden gem in Kyoto. Run by chef Ai Sui and his wife. Only 6 seats at the counter (plus 1 table for 4) and it looks like they only provide 1 service per night. We were fortunate to sit at the counter and watch some of his works. Best omakase traditional Tokyo cuisine. It consisted of 11 courses, 90% seafood. The dishes were simple but elegant and beautiful presented. The service was top notch. The chef spoke English well enough to explain each dish to us. We even had nice chat during and after dinner. We were able to taste different kind of cooking including puffy fish seared on hot rock, crispy grilled eel, Odom made out of squid in Miso broth, deep fried fish hand roll,…. Booking has to be done by email. Will definitely return next time we’re in town. Thank you to the lovely couple (chef Ai Sui and his wife) for a great dinner. We highly recommend this restaurant. What a lovely couple and dining experience! From the stellar communication around making a reservation to the exquisite food and presentation, Chef Ai and Maki-san make you feel cared for and provide a vision of seasonal kappo omakase and traditional dishes on an elevated level and sophisticated twist. Faves included the "udon" noodles made from squid, puffer fish and crispy, grilled unagi with sansho peppers (I was so excited about the latter, I ate it up before I took a pic!). I'd go back in a heartbeat! One of the best meals I had in my life. All plates were delicious, and Ai and Maki made the experience even better. Today we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and I can’t think of a better way to do it (also, they included a little detail for us). Everything perfect! 🥰

A fantastic find in Kyoto. The food was fantastic and highlighted the best of seasonal ingredients from Kyoto including puffer fish. The sake and wine pairing was thoughtful and generous, and complimented the food perfectly. The chefs were kind and attentive, with great English to explain the nuances of each dish.
