This was great. We had dinner at the Saxon‘s Qunu restaurant. From the moment their heavy doors opened and we drove through their perfecly lit garden it felt like stepping into another world. Parking is valet service of course. Staff cannot be faulted, everyone was warm, knowledgable and highly experienced. The interior is classy, and has a bit of stealth wealth vibe that reminded me of Scandinavia or Tokyo. Great live pianist. The retro steak diane in gueridon service was expertly done. The aubergine starter was another unexpected highlight which had a much firmer texture than expected. I didn’t know aubergine can be cooked like that. The amuse-bouche looked great but blurred a little together. The cocktails were too sugary, but perhaps that comes down to personal preference. All in all we had a great dinner. Qunu really was great and the whole experience was fantastic. Price: About R4000 for a dinner for two. This was by far one of the best fine dining experiences. My only disappointment was that they didn’t have salmon nor mussels on the main course. Other than that five star. Staff is very friendly and non intrusive while you dine. Stepping into the restaurant felt like returning to a place we’d been before—not physically, but emotionally. There was a warm familiarity in the air, like a comforting memory—but everything was elevated, refined, and ready to write a new story. The ambience was serene and elegant, with perfectly balanced air and lighting that made you feel cocooned in luxury. It set the stage for what became a remarkable three-course dining experience. Each course was generous in portion and soul. The duck main stood out as the highlight—tender and rich, balanced by cabbage and pumpkin that stirred a deep nostalgia. It reminded us of simpler times and flavours from childhood, but reimagined through the lens of fine dining. Dessert was a masterpiece—not just in taste but in sentiment. A hidden surprise element made it more than just a dish; it became a shared moment, especially for my partner, who was visibly touched. And then, there was Lerato—our waiter and the true heart of the evening. His grace, timing, and genuine warmth tied everything together seamlessly. This meal didn’t just satisfy; it stayed with us. A perfect blend of past and present—familiar flavours, new memories. A five-star experience in every way.

Beautiful restaurant with excellent service and delicious food. A really memorable experience for us celebrating a special occasion. There are many options for inspiring dishes on the set menu. You can choose from 2, 3 or 4 courses on the same set menu. There is an excellently broad range of wines offered, with pairings by expert sommeliers. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to enjoy a sensational dining experience in Johannesburg.

Absolutely Stunning service, surrounding, atmosphere and attention to detail. Thoroughly enjoyed it, a bit pricey, but all worth it nonetheless. Great for very special romantic dates.
